Interesting things we did this week

Watched the SpaceX rocket launch from Gils House, not as cool as Titusville but still pretty cool

Trump is still telling everyone he won the election, even though he hasn’t.  Fake news and the election was fixed.  Because he can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t vote for him.  Narcissist.

I started reading books at work again, I can access my Kindle Account, so I can read in the morning before it gets busy.  I joined the Kindle Unlimited for the trial, we’ll see how much use I get out of it.  I can’t read any of the book I actually want to read, but  I’ve found books similar to the books I would have wanted to read, so perhaps I may get use out of it.

Last weekend, my long walks on the weekend didn’t go as well as I hoped.  I did get new shoes, as the size 10s were starting to turn my toenails black, so back to 10.5s for long distances.  This could have explained my lack of energy over the weekend but I struggled to do 8 miles on Saturday and I did just short of 11 miles on Sunday.  I took a number of breaks on Sunday and I really struggled to do what I got.  I’m thinking with the longer miles on the weekend, I may need to start taking more rest days during the week.  Or maybe not do two long walks on the weekend.  Perhaps do a total of 26 miles but spread it out being heavy on one day and lighter on the other.  I think sleep is a major factor as well.  On Wednesday, I was up before my alarm and on the track at 5:40am, listened to my music and was doing a solid 18 minute mile for nearly 4 miles.  Thursday came and I could barely get motivated to get out of car.  I need to start tracking when I go to bed because I think this may be the defining factor.

I had more issues at plasma donation this week.  Passed all my tests but the phlebotomist overshot my vein and it seemed to work ok at first, it did one cycle and then it stopped.  They had to poke the right arm too and finish up on that side.  They packed the left arm in ice and it helped prevent bruising and swelling.  It never looked to bad but it hurt in a weird way for about 24 hours.  I was worried she’d hit a nerve or damaged something.  After 24 hours though, it seemed to have worked itself out.

Saturday morning we are heading back to the zoo for our Koala encounter.  I’m hoping it works out.  They don’t force the koalas to participate, which is good, except they often don’t want to participate, so they just cancel the encounter.  We’ve had one canceled already.  This is our second shot.  If todays doesn’t go well, I’m going to see if we can switch to something else.  If the Koalas don’t want to cooperate regularly, its not cool to offer it as an encounter.  Except they are one of the most expensive animals to keep at the zoo and the encounters help with their food and upkeep.  UPDATE: The koalas canceled again.  We got a refund and we'll try it again next year when Sidney - the juvenile - is trained and quits eating shoes.  He's very energetic and once trained should be fun to spend time with.

I’m playing with puff pastry dough this weekend.  I have 4 recipes and I’m going to try them all.  I won’t be able to eat stuff, but I can make it.  I did the Nutella Rolls that tasted great but looked like shit - literally.  And the Cherry-Brie cups turned out really good.  The other two recipes got pushed to next week.

We spent time at the Florida Botanical Garden again, Gil loves it there, gets lots of steps in and I always find things to take photos of.  Got my first black widow spider on this trip.  Did even know that's what I was shooting until I zoomed way in.  We were sitting about 4 feet from it and I just thought it was in an interesting position and I might be able to get a photo.  Spiders can be hard since they are so tiny.  My super zoom turned this tiny photo opportunity into a scary surprise.
