Interesting things we did this week

  • Extended my birthday a few days…like I always do.  Took quite a few days off walking and off diet.  Did Sloppy Joes for lunch on Sunday (that was a bad idea, we’ll never go back) and had Thai food on Monday.  I really really miss Thai food.  I might do a Thai cheat day once a month and then go walk a million miles after.  I ordered a stupid amount of food: fresh rolls, krab rangoon, chicken satay, curry puffs, cashew chicken and pad thai.  Gil ate his half that evening, and it took me 3 meals to eat all mine.  It was soooo good.
  • I signed up for a bunch more races from a virtual race company, the first race I signed up for cost nearly $100 for 2 5k registrations.  I’ve since found many others that are not nearly as expensive, most don’t come with t-shirts, but it’s the medal that I want.  Most of the races I signed up for were early bird specials…and they don’t ship until April.  So, I’m pretty much set for the rest of the US year for races (except full marathons).  I’ll be here until July and after that I head towards the Camino if its opened.
  • I got my medals for the Princess that I did a month ago.  They are shiny.
  • I wrapped up Stargate SG1 this week.  I may take a break from watching more tv for awhile.  I want to start listening to Spanish lessons.  It will make it easier on the Camino if I can speak the language.
  • Saturday, I did the runDisney Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon.  My time wasn’t great.  I really need to start walking places that aren’t so photogenic.  Even when I don’t carry the big camera, I still stop and take photos with my phone.  I did the Half Marathon at Gator Creek and did half without the camera and then half with the camera.  It was worth it.  After, I headed over to Circle B and did 3 more miles with Bree and then she left and I did 3 more miles.  Almost 20 miles Saturday.  So, even though my times aren’t good, I’m getting the miles in.  The Camino shouldn’t be an issue if I keep this up.  I want to do a marathon in March…probably the Paris, but I’m not sure I’m going to get it in.  We’ll see.
  • The vaccine roll out is going smoothly and its expected that there will be enough vaccine for every adult in the US by May.  But I’ve been checking other countries, and they aren’t all doing as well.  Some countries may not open their boarders until 2023.  I’m getting nervous and I’ve started to consider the idea that my current “new” plan isn’t going to happen.  Perhaps I will spend extra time in Europe on the Camino.  Or get an annual pass to Disneyland Paris and hang out there for a few months.  The end of my 90 days in Europe will put me in the dead of winter, so I’d need to find a non-Schengen country to stay in.  Ireland and the UK would be ideal, but not in the winter.
