Interesting things we did this week

  • Headed to a new park on Sunday with Mike:  Snead Island.  It was a good park, we did about 5k before running out of time.  It is close to my parents condo and I expect I will head there again in the future.
  • After hiking with Mike, Gil and I went to the zoo for the backstage elephant program.  I’m starting to not be as happy with the zoo programs as I was at first.  They cost very little compared to the programs at Disney or SeaWorld, but they last only a few minutes.  I’m not sure if I’ll sign up for anymore.  $30-$40 for two of us to have a few minutes experiencing a behind the scenes look or feed an animal.  I don’t know, I’ll have to put some thought into it.
  • Sunday afternoon we ended up at the International Mall.  The last time we were there, I’d noticed a Disney Store and a Tesla store and I knew Gil and I could have plenty of entertainment.  We ended up spending the whole time at the Tesla store and test drove a Tesla.  Honestly, if Tesla and Mercedes Sprinter made a baby, I’d be first in line for it.  It’s a good car and it’s an ethical company.  But I need enough room for a toilet.
  • FIS has hired a bucketload of temps to help with Key Bank inbound calls.  I’ve gone from averaging between 100-150 calls a day, to less than 50 calls a day.  The first day there were 38 of us on the phones for a good portion of the day.  Its nice to have that break away from the near constant intensity.  That was last Thursday and this week there are still many of us skilled, although not as many.  Not sure if the trainee’s are spread out with different shifts now or if they lost some over the weekend.  I’m still pretty happy to have the break and knowing we’ll have more help on the phones.
  • Signed up for another full marathon on Friday…to do on Saturday.  A little spontaneous but I was planning a long walk that day anyway and this just forced me to do it.  I went to Circle B which was a mistake, because I wanted to take photos of everything and that was distracting.  I also walked to another park from Circle B called Marshall Hampton Reserve.  It was 3 miles away, but the walk was on a busy road and it was a mistake.  No water at Marshall Hampton.  When I finally got back to Circle B, I was super dehydrated, but I took time to cool down and drink lots of electrolytes and keep walking.  My time was almost identical to the first marathon.  Considering the heat index and dehydration issue, I expect that isn’t a surprise, I was hoping for a better time, but next time I’ll plan better.
  • I think I’m going to sign up for the Paris Marathon and the Great Wall Marathon.
