Interesting things we did this week

  • Had brunch with Gina and Phil in Tampa at a place called Bulla Gastrobar.  It was expensive, but the food was good.  The place was loud and crowded, but I expect that was to be expected on a V-Day brunch.  From there, I drove Gil to the Hard Rock, where he went and ‘made a presence’ and I crawled into my pillow fort in the back of my car.  I miss my pillow fort.  I’m considering doing a couple of weekend trips so I can get re-acquainted with my pillow fort.  I forgot how comfortable it is.
  • I failed protein again at plasma donation.  It wouldn’t be a huge deal, except there is some promotional thing and it will directly effect that.  I’m only missing one donation, but I need to get those numbers up again.  I’m thinking about just eating a stupid amount of fish the day before each donation.  I like the tilapia I made this week, lots of hot sauce.  Add a little cool tarter sauce and it’s a good meal.
  • I’ve been having issues getting up in the morning.  I got up every morning for the first week of working from home.  The 2nd week, temps dropped below 50…so that wasn’t going to happen.  Then we went to Disney and didn’t get home until 11pm and my sleep schedule for the next week was horrible.  This week isn’t much better, I’m dreaming hard which makes waking up even harder.  But I finally starting getting up and walking Thursday and Friday of this week.  Another cold spell is coming through this weekend, and I’m going to try to push through it and get up anyway.  We’ll see.
  • I’ve been doing lots of research on the Camino de Santiago.  I also started researching some of the other ‘virtual walks’ I doing…those are based on real hikes or pilgrimages.  I might have discovered a new way to explore Europe without breaking the bank.  I don’t know if they all have support systems similar to the Camino, but if they do, cheap lodging and pilgrim meals could make the travel more affordable.  Plus, I’d be walking all over Europe, meeting new people and having interesting experiences.
  • Saturday I headed to Alafia River State Park in Lithia, FL.  It’s located south of Brandon.  Took well over an hour to get there and the park was packed.  It was a nice day and a Saturday morning, but I was unprepared for the population.  It seemed all the mountain biking aficiados in floria were there along with some kind of special even for Orienteering, which brought Jr ROCT groups from schools all over Florida plus some.  Most of the trails are bike specific and the multiuse/hiking trails are limited.  I ended up doing only just short of 8 miles before calling it a day.
