Interesting things we did this week
- I did my first “long” walk this weekend to try to prep for the upcoming marathon. I did 11 miles in the morning, then took a break and took care of some errands, ate lunch and rested. Took off in the late afternoon to Eagle Lake where I did another 5 miles. My feet hurt quite badly, but I did 16 miles in one day. I need to take less of a break next time because I lost momentum and allowed my muscles to get cold and would have lost daylight. I’m going to pack a lunch this weekend and take about an hour break to hydrate and eat and take some ibuprofen and try to keep going. I have a few more weeks before I have to do the 27 miles. I still have the multiday option if I’m not able to pull it off, but it’s a nice challenge and I’d like to be able to complete it in one day.
- I made the Asparagus and Portabella Tarts on Monday, and they were really really good. I ate a small one and could have eaten a lot more. The boys put them all away very quickly.
- Thanksgiving went by with little fanfare. I bought a turkey an Gil cooked it. Turkey is pretty boring without all the carbs that normally accompany it, so I threw mine onto some keto bread with a slice of cheese and keto ketchup and it was really good. I forgot how much I really enjoy turkey sandwiches. I’m hoping we’ll have enough leftovers so I can have a few more.
- So ‘early Black Friday’ shopping email came through my phone for Photobook America Thursday night just as I was going to bed. I scrolled through it to check out the prices and figured I’d take care of it Friday, as I needed to make sure the photo book options fit the one I had prepped. Friday morning rolls around and I pull up the site and the prices are different. I had planned on making the purchases on Cyber Monday, because I think they are cheaper than on Black Friday. Now I’m curious as to how the “early” special compares to the other two. I wish I would have written down the prices last night. I’ll write down the prices today and compare them with Mondays. Then next year I’ll know for sure. I did check to see that I had chosen the right options for my photobook that I had prepared. I’d have been upset if I had to start or pay a non-Cyber Monday price.
- So a handful of people are getting calendars, a handful of people are getting booze and a handful of people are getting cookies for xmas. I’m thinking about making Soda Cracker Candy for gifts. Gil is getting spoiled, he’s getting a bat box (he’s been talking about getting one for years), a pre-owned Playstation3 from Ebay (because he’s broken all his previous ones), a new hat, and cordless headphones (his previous ones shorted out) and an Ancestry test kit. I spent too much but I think its all stuff he’ll use and enjoy. Most of it is stuff Gil has mentioned previously…”I wish I had” etc. The Ancestry Kit was my idea, as Gil claims many different heritages, and they could all be true, but now we’ll know for sure.
- I’m going to try to do 20 miles on Saturday. And I think I’m going to do it all at Boyd Hill. I’m going to pack a lunch and an extra pair of shoes. I’ll do the first few hours in my waterproof hikers, then switch over to the Brooks after 10 miles or so. The Brooks are a little too big before my feet start swelling but the hikers are too small after 10 miles or so. So I figured I’d try this.
