Interesting things that happened this week
- I finished season 2 of Cagney and Lacey on Amazon. I liked this show as a kid, but I love it as an adult. I think it's probably pretty close to "real life" as a tv cop show gets. The characters were relatable and the problems were real. Ethical dilemmas and similar problems we run into today. Illegal immigrants and police brutality against minorities and domestic violence. It's weird how little things have changed in the last 30 years.
- Started season 5 of Lost. The first time I lost interest around season 4. I'm determined to finish it this time, but I'm bored. The storyline is chaotic and hard to follow. Flashbacks and flashforward make it hard to keep up. I asked Gil how it ends so I dont have to pay too much attention. I expect I would be angry if I was super involved and I got to the end without knowing. It was not well received by the masses when it was first broadcast.
- Signing up for three virtual runs this week. I dont have to do them all at once, which is good. I wanted to do the Carmino de Santiago challenge but that's 480 miles and we only have 12 weeks left. That's 40 miles a week. If I had nothing else going on, it's barely doable, but working full time and dealing with Gils issues and such, 40 miles a week for 12 weeks, it's a lot. The other three races, they are smaller, less than 140 miles over 12 weeks. Still a challenge but attainable.
- Sunday, I hit Boyd Hill in order to do the 5k trail they have. I didnt even manage 2 miles. It was hot and miserable. I got a later start than I wanted because we took Xena to the beach then to the park early on. I headed to Boyd Hill around 10am but by the time I got there and got started, it was hot. I'm going to need to tough it out or get an earlier start if I want to make good miles for the challanges.
- Trumpette ordered coronavirus statistics be sent to Washington now and not the CDC. I'll continue tracking the numbers for a while but I expect they will be less reliable now. Honestly, who trusts politicians over the doctors? Of course he also said that 99% of cases are harmless, even though the fatality rate is roughly 4.5% and 15% of people suffer symptoms so severe they require hospitalization. So, I think it's safe to say Lord Feltersnatch doesnt understand basic math.
