March 27, 2020 - St Pete, FL Day 1 Lockdown
First day in lock down. Re-establishing a relationship with the puppy.
Coronavirus cases in the US are up to 104,142 and 1588 deaths. For that are countying, that is a 50% increase from yesterday. Took us a little over a month for the first 1000 deaths and it'll take 2-3 days for next the thousand. Yesterday, the US passed China and Italy to take the #1 spot in cases. We have a larger land mass than Italy and a larger population, so Italy is still beating us per capita. But we have more overall cases than they do. Most of our hospitals are handling the case load, but New York is starting to struggle. They have a very large population and nearly everyone depends on public transportation (in the city, not the state). The hospitals are overwhelmed and New Yorkers with Rv's or Condos in Florida are leaving the state and heading elsewhere. Many are already infected and they are trailing the virus all the way down I-95 or to RV parks in other areas. College kids are still going on spring break. There is still a significant portion of people that think its all media hype. It was reported today that Pastor Landon Spradlin of Virginia died of Corona after preaching to anyone listening that it wasn't as serious as the media made it out to be. He's also a traveling musician. He died in North Carolina days after calling the response to the virus "mass hysteria". Who knows how many people he infected before he realized he was infected.
Most everywhere is sold out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes. People are encouraged to wear face masks and gloves when going out. Since trump made a bunch of rules in regards to importing materials and products, the US doesn't have enough face masks. The companies in the US can't get the materials to make more and the companies outside the US are selling to other countries. trump removed the tariffs and such during the virus crises, but the manufacturers can only produce so many and they are selling them to countries that do business with them all the time. In the meantime, hospitals are running out and all us regular people can't get our hands on them. Everywhere is sold out. So people are making homemade ones. Most of the ones in the US are made by people following a pattern and they resemble actual face masks. In other countries, they may (or maybe not, its possibly just a joke) be making them out of bras, sanitary napkins, underwear, baby blankets etc.
Here is one of my favorite memes from today. I'm spending a lot of time on Facebook.
