March 21, 2020 Big Bend National Park
Woke up and hit the road. Happy to see that bush toilet right past the entrance. There was a lot of fog. Something I didn't expect to see in the desert. It made some fantastic photos though. I drove through a section of the park that I skipped the day before, working my way through the winding foggy roads towards the entrance of the park. I spent close to two hours on that slow drive taking photos of the mountains and the flowers. On my way out, a coyote ran across the road in front of me. It was about 200 feet in front, so moved my car to about where I thought it was. Grabbed my camera and started scanning the desert. Little roadrunners can hide around the short shrubbery easily, but a coyote wouldn't have a harder time. I scanned hard. Moved forward a little bit and scanned again. Kept moving forward, looking for any movement or anything that isn't a shrubbery. Finally I found him. He was standing as still as a statue watching me like I was watching him. Got my shot.
The rain was definitely coming, you could feel it in the air. I made it out of the park and onto the road for about half an hour before it started coming. And it rained all the way to Dallas. I made a stop at the Odessa Meteor Crater. The visitor center was close and I was cold (the rain dropped the temperature) and I didn't want to get super wet. But I rain out and got some photos of the sign and the walking path around the crater. After the Arizona meteor crater (the most well formed and preserved one in the world) it was a little anticlimactic.
