Arizona February 5, 2020 Navajo National Monument - Page AZ
Slept in a bit after I finally got back to sleep the night before. Grabbed a 2 for 4 sandwich deal at Burger King and headed to Navajo National Monument. The weather was good with the exception of it being really cold. There was only one trail that I wanted to do there and that lead to the overlook of the ruins. I delayed the hike but hanging out at the visitors center and watching some educational films and exploring the exhibits. Finally put on my hat and coat and headed out. I was glad I saw the ruins but I was also glad to get back inside. 1.3 miles isnt much unless its below freezing.
It was only 12:30pm by then and I figured I'd head over to Page and make reservations for tomorrow's Antelope Canyon Tour. Made it to Page by 2pm and drove around the Glen Canyon Recrational area a little while debating on which tour i should do, upper or lower. Lower is cheaper but has 85 stairs going down. And eventually coming back up. The upper tours were twice the price but had no stairs. I headed to the tour area for the lower tours to see of they had any information that would help me make the decision. I'm glad I did, the tour guide Ro convinced me to take the lower tour and was able to get me in to the 3pm tour. I'm so glad I did, it was amazing, the stairs weren't that bad and I got fantastic photos! Turns out, a guy I went to high school with was there the same day! He was with the same tour company but took the 230pm tour so we didn't see each other. I wouldn't have recognized him anyway, but still a cool coincidence. He posted photos on Facebook shortly before I posted a photo on facebook and my sister made the connection.
Finished up the day at Horseshoe Bend. No tour needed, it's just a beautiful spot and a $10 parking fee. I thought that was a little steep but the area is kept nice and clean, there are good public toilets and security to make sure panhandlers aren't breaking into your car. It's probably worth it.
Originally, I had planned on doing Page on a separate day, but I won't need to and now I have an extra day. I'm going to head to one of the NM that I had scratched from the list tomorrow. Maybe head across the state line to Utah and do a NM over there
