Route 66 Day 48 Nov 25, 2019
Phone call from the temp agency bright and early Monday morning. Everything has panned out and they would like to hire me. When can I start? I can start tomorrow, I reply. Excellent, I’ll let them know, she said.
I’m still in Williams and head into the truck stop for a tinkle and a teeth cleaning. I have all day to play and I’m halfway to the Grand Canyon! Woohoo! I jump in the car and start heading towards the park. Without looking at the weather,
because I’m stupid. And without thinking that it is the weekend before Thanksgiving. I’m on the road for 10 minutes when the agency calls me again and asks if I can go get my fingerprints done today? Really? Couldn’t have brought this up before I hit the
road? Before I made mental plans to do something else? I said I could but I was on the road to the Grand Canyon and tomorrow would be better, if that was Ok. If its not Ok, I’ll turn around now. It was fine, so I continued to the Grand Canyon.
A few miles away from the gate, there was a digital sign providing the wait time at the entrance booth. What??? I should have figured it out. But I kept going and when I got there, my car slowly inched its way up to the entrance. Unlike
every other National Park I’ve been to on this trip, when I showed them my NPS pass, she didn’t ask for ID, she just said “Its fine, go ahead. Need a map?” Trying to get people through as fast as possible. Parking at the Visitors Center was full and I did
circles to find an empty one. The wind was cold and strong and I was freezing, There were hundreds of people in my general area and I walked a bit but needed to find a less populated area. Used my map to find a museum and did some circles trying to get
to it, but the traffic was so horrible I never did find it. I was at the Grand Canyon for about an hour of some intense frustration before I finally just left. There will be other weekends and very possibly, if my assignment ends before the middle of February,
I’ll probably come spend a week here. It doesn’t need to be now. I took a handful of photos and called it a day.
Back in Flagstaff, I got stressed about my wordrobe again and hit the Goodwill. Picked up a few more sweaters and then hit the gym for a quick workout and a shower. Early to bed, early to rise…ready to start a new job.
