Route 66 Day 47 Nov 24, 2019

Woke up with a full day ahead of me.  I had to be back at the caverns for the ghost tour by 5pm and that gave me a lot of time to blow.  I started at the Train Museum but their off season hours didn't open until later on Sunday, so I headed up the hill to do a little hiking.  There is a little hiking area that used to be part of the mining area.  You can see where the wagon wheels wore grooves into the stone road while transporting mining materials from the mine to the train station.  There was also supposed to be an old advertisement painted on the side of the rock face encouraging miners to visit a local tavern.  But I couldn't find it.

The Train Museum is located in the old Train Depot and the museum part is very very small.  Its mostly just a place for old folks to play with their model trains.  They have quite the set up there and they were as entertaining has the history of trains posted on the wall were.

There are two other museums in Kingman, but rumor has it if you visit one you can get a coupon to visit the other for free and only one is open on Sunday, so I decided to save those for a later day.  At the train museum I picked up a brocure for a local distillery and decided to check it out.  They have a tour and tastings.  Wasn't sure they'd be open on a Sunday but they were and I had a great time learning about the process and tasting the run and vodka.

Finally back on the road and heading to the Grand Canyon Caverns.  The ghost tour wasn't much different than the regular tour and in all honesty, it wasn't worth doing both.  I should have just done the one and called it a day.

It was dark when I left the caverns and I was getting pretty worried about the ice on the roads.  Ended up stopping in Williams, knowing I could get back to Flagstaff quickly in the morning if I needed to.
