Route 66 Day 46 Nov 23, 2019

Woke up with the full weekend ahead of me.  I wasn't expecting any job calls over the weekend and Flagstaff was going to be cold.  Time to make a plan.  I decided to jump back on Route 66 and head towards Kingman.  The drive was beautiful and there was lots to see.  I followed the list items to Williams and was surprised that my Route 66 app had only one item listed under Williams.  Williams is a Route 66 town and the entire town is covered in murals and museums and historical motels and diners.  I drove the loop 3x before I finally moved on.  I need to do a full weekend here.  Pass through 2 more small towns that totally embrace the Route 66 culture and finally run into Grand Canyon Caverns.  I have heard of this place.  They have a hotel suite in the cave that you can rent for $1000 a night.

The whole area is more than just the caverns.  They own a huge chunk of land and it contains an RV park, motel, restaurant, gift shop, gas station, mini-golf and a bunch of more stuff.  I think I saw a rodio stadium on the property.  It is probably the most interesting tourist spot within a 100 mile radius and they are doing their best to entertain their guests.  I take a tour, get some good shots of the fancy hotel suite and sign up for the cave ghost tour for the following night.

Keep trucking down Route 66 towards Kingman.  I got their later in the day on Saturday and although I still have some sun left, there are three museums that aren't open.  And one of the list items includes a hike.  Soooo... I call it a night as soon as the sun sets.  Grab some dinner at McD's while I update my Fire with new episodes of NCIS and then find a parking space at a truck stop up against the rail road tracks.

I had planned on sleeping at the Walmart in Kingman as its one of the few Walmarts in Arizona that allows overnight parking.  But the truckstop was closer to the train tracks.  I love listening to the trains pass all night.
