Route 66 Day 44 Nov 21, 2019

Waiting, waiting, waiting....

I left the motel this morning, I couldn't justify another day sitting around doing nothing for $35 a shot.  I decide to check out the options for cheap office clothing and shoes.  Maybe not buy anything yet, but know what my options are and where I need to go if I get the job.  I'm also debating on getting a new sleeping bag.  I want a square bag, not a mummy bag.  I can't get my mummy bag up past the boobs and that isn't going to work if the weather is consistently below 40 degrees.   I'm also thinking I'm going to invest in some hiking boots.  The daytimes are pretty warm even if the nights are cold.  If I had footwear that could handle the ice and snow, I could do some hiking during the day.  I'm also thinking I want a coat.  Sweatshirt isn't cutting it.  I know the jacket that I want and its expensive.   However, my new attitude is about buying what I need in the beginning and now waste money on things that are cheaper but aren't going to work right.

I head to the mall and start with JC Penneys.  They have my jacket but its not coming with a stuff sack and I want one with a stuff sack. I work my way through the mall and look at a number of jackets and boots.  I find things that will work but not at the price I want.  I'm on a budget now, I have to consider these things.

I head over to Big Lots and find nothing I like.  Next to Big Lots is a large independent outdoor gear place.  It appears that they are catering to farmers and such but they might have things I could use.  I ended up finding a number of boots that 'could' work and some of them are less than $50.  I hit paydirt when I run into a zero degree sleeping bag for $29.99.  It is not compact.  It is not lightweight.  I will never be able to hike with it, but it is exactly what I need currently.  If the weather stays cold, this sleeping bag will be the difference between comfortable and not.  I bought it.

Finally headed over to the Good Will which I was saving for last.  None of the womans shoes were of the practical variety.  Mostly fashion or work related.  I head over to the mens footwear and find two pair of hiking shoes right off the bat.  Colombias and Merrells - two brands that I know and trust and both pairs of shoes are half a size too small.  Ugh!  I finally try on a pair of heavy hiking boots that fit pretty good, appear to be waterproof and go above the ankle.  I don't know this brand but for $15, I'll take a risk.  If they don't work, once I'm working I can head over to the mall and buy a pair of brand new Colombias if I need to.
