Route 66 Day 38 Nov 15, 2019

Woke up with a minor headache (hangover cause I'm back to being a super lightweight again) and some motivation to contact temp agencies and apply for some seasonal jobs.  My first concern was my hair.  It was no longer short but it wasn't quite long and it didn't really behave in any manner.  I didn't want my potential employers to think I was related to Doc from Back to the Future, so I went and bought a couple of scarves to see if I could do anything to make it look less crazy.  Nope, didn't work.  So off to a hair salon and got a hair cut.  I looked very put together.  Spent the rest of the day visiting temp agencies and at the library putting in application but I don't really have high hopes.  This is a college town and I was told by my hairdresser that jobs were scarce.  I have plenty I want to do here, so I'll give it a week and I'll move on.  There are 4 National Monuments and the Grand Canyon near by along with an entire historic district that looks interesting.  I can find plenty to do here.  Plus the library has the best internet I've encountered on this trip and it makes it sooooo much easier to upload photos.  In Winslow it took me around 45 minutes to upload 50 photos.  In Flagstaff, it took me 5 minutes to upload 100 photos.  I love the internet here.

Oh, I almost forgot, the first thing I did in the morning was to visit the Flagstaff Visitors Center which is a historical building shared with the Amtrak Station.  I'm not entirely sure, but the historic plaque on the building suggested the train came to town in 1866, so I think that is when the building was built, but maybe not. It was still a pretty cool building.

After talking with a number of temp agencies, I decided to grab some lunch before heading to the library.  I ended up at a Route 66 café called Miz Zip's.  It was very classic and the food was good.  Immediately after this meal (while I was still in the restaurant, I began showing the early signs of food poisoning.  Spent a few minutes in the bathroom while emptied out my intestines.  Soon after, I started feeling yucky.  I'm pretty sure its not Miz Zip's that caused it, too soon.  And after careful conseration, I'm pretty sure it was the truck stop pizza as it took me half a day to eat and perhaps pork products shouldn't be kept in the car while I explore meteor craters.  I stayed close to the bathroom at the library and that night, I slept near a Speedway gas station which I visited last thing at night and first thing in the morning.  Hoped Saturday would be batter.
