Route 66 Day 27 Nov 4, 2019

Woke up on this beautiful Monday morning very early.  The time change moved sunrise to around 6:30 rather than the previous 7:30, so I was adjusting.  Unfortunately, very few things are open at 6:30am so I set up some NCIS and played on my phone, mentally putting my day together.  I soon learned that the BioPark combo-pass isn't' available on Monday.  I'd planned that activity because Monday was going to be a nice toasty warm day and I didn't want to do a hotel day when the weather was nice, but I quickly changed my plans.  Monday would be a hotel and Tuesday would be BioPark day.  The weather Tuesday was going to be good too, so it wasn't that big of a deal, and I needed a shower.  So, jumped on hotels.com and decided to use my free hotel night that I'd been saving for a place that had hotels in the same price range as Orlando.  Unfortunately, the quality/price ratio for Orlando is very good, and for other cities, not so much.  I found a place where the reviews weren't horrible.  I kind of wanted to stay on one of the Route 66 places, but the ones I could afford had reviews that included terms like "bedbugs" and "crackheads" so I decided to forgo those and got a crappy little motel room that passed some basic review standards.  It was old and had little to no services outside of the room, but that was fine.  I just needed internet (which kind of sucked) and a bed and shower.  I checked in and immediately went about my business of getting everything charged up and getting my self cleaned up.  I checked the mattress and sheets for signs of bedbugs first (thank you Anthony Melchiorri).  I watched lots of Food Network and worked on my photos for the rest of the day.  It wasn't a bad little motel and served its purpose and only cost me $8 after my hotel.com credit.

 I did crack into one more of the Pops stash....Banana Nut soda.  I was a little nervous, it makes great bread but soda?????  It was awesome.

Sept 27 Coronavirus US CASES 6,980,115 Coronavirus DEATHS 192,761     Oct 3      Coronavirus US CASES 7,234,219 Coronavirus DEATHS 197,206     Gil’s Birthday Celebration continued through Sunday.  We started out doing a liter clean up at Sawgrass, I’d signed up a month previous and I decided it might be a fun additional to the rest of the activities.  The liter cleanup was joined by Lisa and Chris and Carla.  It didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped.  I had received a message from the park ranger that the canal at the front of the park was a high liter area.  They had something called a water goat in the canal and it prevents the liter from floating down stream.  It was a good collection of trash but unfortunately much of it was out of reach.  We had liter pickers and a net and this was helpful, but it still left a lot of liter.  We talked about getting a boat but launching i...

Route 66 - Day 3 - Oct 11, 2019

Woke up after a great nights sleep in the Lincoln Walmart parking lot.  I love Walmarts that cater to those boondocking and I always try to spend my dollars t here when I can.  Hit the road early and started marking things off my list.  The Route 66 Ultimate Guide is a pretty good guide.  Its not perfect, I've missed some things I wanted to see because I assumed they would be included, but unfortunately they are not.  I'm trying to be more conscience now and double checking things.  I started in Lincoln and ended the day close to the Illinois/Missouri border.  I didn't want to cross as I wanted to hike the old Chain of Rocks bridge in the daylight.  The walmarts in the area didn't offer overnight parking, so I backtracked for a few miles and spent the night at a rest area on I-44.
