Route 66 Day 24 Nov 1, 2019

I started my first day in Albuquerque on the wrong side of town.  The only Walmart that allows overnight parking was on the Northwest side of town and I wanted to be on the east side of town.  My first goal this morning was the Musical Highway.  I little portion of Route 66 east of town plays America the Beautiful if you drive exactly 45 mph.  There used to be a sign here informing drivers but the sign is gone and there is no notification at all.  This made me kind of sad.  This is an awesome piece of road.

After hitting the Musical Highway, I worked my way down Route 66.  Some of it going through Albuquerque is a bit rough, plenty of homeless people and sketchy looking businesses.  Lots of old Route 66 era motels that have become rundown or out of business.  Sometimes its just a sign left and no building left at all.  The farther west I got, it cleaned up quite a bit and became a bit artsy.  Murals on the walls, motels that have been well maintained and plenty of businesses that celebrate Route 66.  I took pictures of most of my list items plus dozens of more motels, motel signs, diners and murals.  I skipped the Old Town Plaza as traffic was horrible and I wanted to be able to go there when the traffic was lighter.  I also skipped the BioPark as this is a $22 admission ticket and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go or not.

After my list items, I decided to catch up on laundry and back tracked to a laundry mat I'd passed early.  Washed and dried a load of laundy in less than an hour.  I've never been able to do that before with my washer / dryer at home and I super like industrial stregnth equipement.  From there I headed over to the library and started downloading photos and trying to get my computer work caught up as I was way behind.  I closed the library 6pm and headed over to Chili's for soup and margaritas and worked until I lost battery on the computer.  I always underestimate how long the computer work is going to take and I always feel like I'm sooo far behind.  I didn't finish at Chili's, I still had plenty more to do.  It was nearly 20 miles back to Walmart and I was super tired.  I pulled into a parking lot across the street from Chili's at a hotel and crashed for the night.
