Route 66 Day 5 Oct 13, 2019

Day 5 started out early.  It was also a Sunday, so many things that I could have caught open at a different time or day...were closed.  Still was able to cross somethings off the list and ended up at Uranus Fudge Shop just while it was open.  This is a kooky little shopping area and a fun stop.  The  bar and grill is closed for refurbishment and rebranding.  The ice cream parlor is closed for the season.  But the Fudge factory was open and after about half an hour, the Circus Sideshow Museum was also open.  The Fudge Factory is way more than a fudge.  You could buy dozens of different candy there along with local jams and pickles.  They had old school roadtrip toys for the kids...the kind of thing my parents would buy for me before a vacation.  In the back they had a huge selection of guns.  Cause what's a Fudge Factory without hunting gear.  I made a few passes and then went back to the car for the camera.  Photographed the outside of the plaza with all its kookiness and then paid to enter the Circus Sideshow Museum.  A really fantastic collection, its both a tribute to famous circus folks, provides pickled samples of natures mistakes and also provided some of the goofy things the circus folks tried to pass off as real.  They also have a conjoined twin turtle...which made me feel really bad for the turtles.  One would reposition, trying to get comfortable...and mess up the position of the one that was already comfortable.  I did a short day, knowing that I wanted to hit Branson during the day and the Walmarts for both Branson and Springfield were on the No-Sleep list.  Stayed at the Walmart in Marshfield.  Finally cracked and bought another blanket.  I had a number of small blankets plus my sleeping bag.  Honestly, the sleeping bag was really enough, but I prefer soft fabric on my skin rather than plasticky feeling of the sleeping bag.  So I dropped $15 and bought a queen size blanket that won't easily get dislodged when I roll over in the night.

Other highlights:

Hubble Telescope replica and Edwin Hubble Memorial - very interesting

Redmon Candy Factory where you can buy mustard flavored soda.
