Cape Town Day 1
Finally the end of the tour. We pulled in very early...too early to check into the hostel. So I (along with a few of my tour mates) worked to book our tickets for the Robben Island
Tour (which tends to fill up easily). Half our group got into the 9am tour, and the rest of us got into the 11am tour. But then nearly everyone had left for lunch so I wandered around to try to find something good. Found
a pizza place and walked in to find 4 other tour mates in there. It was a nice lunch and by the time we got back, we could check in and get settled. This hostel is probably one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. It
was super clean, beautifully decorated, had original art on the walls, decent wifi, free breakfast, a bar/restaurant in the evening, a pool and an activities planner. Part of the building is private rooms and part of the
building is dorm rooms. For only $15 a night, it was a great deal. We had our final meal today at a restaurant about 3 blocks away . Another restaraunt (no more cooking and cleaning, woohoo!) This was the our final activity
as a group. We were all staying at the same lodging for the night, but in the morning most people were moving onto other lodging or flying out of the area. This restaurant was the last place I saw most of the people in my
group. I connected with very few people in my group, which i found really disappointing. I connected with my dorm mates from day one at Victoria Falls. I connected with my dorm mates in Cape Town from day one. I know more
about those 3 people I spent 2-3 days with than I know about the majority of the people I just spent 3 weeks with. There are a handful of people that I was able to have some really nice talks with and we’ll be following
each others travels on Facebook...but for the most part out of the 20-24 people in my group, I know very little about any of them. Most of them didn’t think to invite me on outings when they went out to eat or to explore
town. Most of them had been traveling with each other since June and they’d already formed bonds and cliques and I was an outsider. I don’t know if other tour groups have similar issues, but without making a
concious effort, I expect they do.
