So...the time between selling the house and hitting the road didn't have an exact schedule. I wanted some quality time with a few friends, some down time to get my anxiety levels in check and to work on the storage unit to either downsize or eliminate it. Unfortunately there have been some down days and some slacker days and way too many rainy days. And after nearly two weeks, I'm still having anxiety 'packing, sorting' dreams all night, which doesn't result in restful nights. Yesterday I decided to focus and bite the bullet and rain or not, I need to get this crap done. Day drinking while watching Netflix on a semi-regular basis isn't healthy and I'm developing bad habits. I expect after working 70-80 hour work weeks for years on end....indulging in being a slacker is a normal response. I'm sooooo behind on tv shows and its fun to try to catch up. But this isn't the reason I quit my job. I need to get moving. So, I have six days to get my ass on the road. Its going to be challenging as the rain is a serious issue but I either do the work or I pay $120 a month until I get all the stuff sorted. Honestly, my lazy self is seriously considering it, but that adds up and I know I don't have enough stuff to justify the bigger unit. So I need to downsize to a $65 unit, or I downsize until the I can store all my worldly possessions in friends closets/basements/sheds. I keep having flashbacks of Rory Gilmore trying to find all her stuff after she moved back from overseas. This will probably be my life when I get back.
On a more positive front, I spent 4 hours working on my Africa trip and I have purchased my airfare from Detroit to Boston, I have scheduled my Boston days and reserved a hostel bed. I have reserved my hostel beds in Victoria Falls and Cape Town. I still need to solidify my transportation from Jo'burg to Victoria Falls, which I'm still debating over (cheap bus/train option vs expensive flight) I need to deciding on lodging for my week in Jo'burg at the end of my trip. And I need to purchase my train ticket from Cape Town to Jo'burg. So, not entirely done, but quite a bit has been solidified.
Also, I'm probably going to be able to do the Georgia waterfall roadtrip on the way to Michigan that I wanted to do last month. AND I'll be back in Michigan after my Africa trip in time to attend my 30th year high school reunion. Cause I'm that old. And I think I'm going to do Route 66 in October. The weather won't be horrible, the crowds will be thinner and I won't have anywhere to be after, so I can take my time. The only downside is many of the things on Route 66 are seasonal and may not be open or available.
Bottom line...life is about to get very exciting.
